Removes meme, marine, and meta tips, replacing them with lore tidbits. I believe this is more befitting of the server than "how to git gud" tips are, and it helps the average player who may not be a lore nerd to understand the universe a little better. Mostly adheres to Aliens lore, but makes some concessions for PVP's existence and the individual preferences of GMs, as some GMs like to spawn req officers/maint techs/MPs for example.

Still needs more tidbits, but it's tested and works. I'd ideally want about 50 lore tidbits.

I'd love suggestions for tips and edits based on my potential misunderstanding of the lore. Tips should be broad and seek to improve the average player's understanding of the universe, not be hyper specific cases such as how to clean a rifle.

Suggestion:

The United Americas Allied Command (UAAC) is the overarching joint command of all United American militaries—all United States, Latin America, and Canadian armed forces are under it— and as estabilished by the Washington Treaty, it is tasked with maintaining the collective security of all UA signatories and their recognized interstellar colonies. The UAAC is formed by the United States Army, United States AeroSpace Force (USASF), Latin American Colonial Navy (LACN), Canadian Colonial Armed Forces (CCAF), United Americas Outer Rim Defense (UAORD) and of course, the United States Colonial Marine Corps (USCM)

Capable of a max speed of Mach 8, the UD-4 "Cheyenne" Dropship is a combat utility spacecraft used by the USCM. Though not built to enage in significant with ground or space defenses, the UD-4 is capable of withstanding a significant beating while still remaining airborne. Despite this, even light damage can prevent it from exiting the atmosphere of a planet.
Excluding the Commanding Officer and synthetic support units, most USCM vessels only carry combat personnel aboard. Any supply, engineering, or medical duties are carried out by the marines themselves. Repairs too complex for marines are carried out by synthetics, with surgeries being handled by an autodoc suite. Occasionally a vessel may employ additional support staff in the form of doctors, engineers, and requisitions personnel, though this is uncommon.
Military Police are not a frequently present force aboard marine ships, with the bulk of disciplinary action being carried out by the NCOs of the vessel.
USCM FTL is highly dangerous, utilizing a tachyon shunt to get from one destination to the other, speeding up time in the ship itself. Anyone not in hypersleep is, for lack of a better description, is forced into a tachyonic state, undergoing psychosis and rapid aging before quicky succumbing to the effects. Synthetics, however, are still capable of operating while a tachyon shunt is underway. Even with this process, the fastest vessels often take several days or even weeks to reach their destinations.

"Anyone not in hypersleep is, for lack of a better description, is forced into ..." -- extra "is" here.

That's the only incorrect thing in this one, but I do remember someone noting these should be conversational (or at least easy to digest). Here's a recommendation with some restructuring and refocusing to make it move a bit more smoothly.

USCM FTL is highly dangerous, utilizing a tachyon shunt to locally accelerate the passage of time for the ship and its crew. While this greatly expedites the journey, the resulting tachyonic state induces severe psychosis and terminally rapid aging in those aboard. Luckily hypersleep prevents these effects, and synthetics are still capable of ...

Typical operations for the marines in the USCM involve handling minor things for the outer colonies. If a colony stops sending all clear signals, a ship is tasked to investigate. More often than not it is a transmitter or relay satellite that was disabled for one reason or another, though they do frequently respond to civil riots and quell worker strikes on colonies where the CMB, if even present, are incapable of handling the situation.
The Office of the Colonial Marshals, otherwise known as the OCM and frequently referred to as the CMB is a law enforcement agency responsible for policing colonial centers and space stations. Often colonies are too small to even warrant a presence of the Colonial Marshals and simply rely on self policing. If the CMB can't handle something or aren't present, it's up to the USCM to deal with the problem.
The M577 APC is the most lightly armored vehicle in the USCM arsenal and operates as a mobile command center for a marine platoon, though due to it's fragile nature marines tend to frown upon it's use in the field.

Correct form of "its," and we could simplify "fragile nature."

Despite popular belief, the USCM and UPP are not in a proper war. Over the centuries, what will and won't cause all-out war has shifted. Skirmishes in the outer fringes of space between the UPP and the United Americas are frequent and the use of nuclear weapons is almost as common as missile attacks were in the 21st century.

Since we're in our first sentence, the reader doesn't have a ton of context yet, making "things" a bit ambiguous here.

A desperate attempt at surviving in the modern age, the formation of the UPP came directly as a result of the European Union's prior dissolution, spurred by mass famine, a collapse of societal structures, and a general abandonment of support and relations from the recently formed United Americas and Three World Empire.
The Service or Jail Act is a legislation in the United Americas that permits incarcerated individuals to enlist in the USCM to avoid jail time provided they are capable of meeting the strict requirements of service.
USCM Platoons on the Golden Arrow are formed by 11 marines—two squads of four, a corpsman, a platoon sergeant, and the platoon's commanding officer. Squads are split into two teams, a gun team comprised of a rifleman and a smartgunner, and a rifle team consisting of the squad leader and a rifleman.

Some suggestions, especially regarding the extended universe:

One of the most famous tales among military and xenocryptid circles is that of the "Predator". Supposedly, this mysterious and elusive alien (or perhaps a species of alien?) is said to be both primitive and advanced; having the appearance of a tribal warrior, but with technology that surpasses anything humanity has. It is said to stalk and hunt (hence the name) worthy prey, such as dangerous xenofauna or even humans.

Sir Peter Weyland, founder of the megacorporation Weyland Corporation (now Weyland-Yutani after the merger in 2099), disappeared sometime after 2091, he is said to have secretly boarded the USCSS Prometheus, at the time the most advanced and expensive faster-than-light space exploration vehicle to be built, and disappeared along with the crew after they set off to explore the far-away LV-233.

Seegson is a minor competitor of Weyland-Yutani, covering a wide arrange of products like any self-respected megacoporation. Its strategy to compete with such titan of a corporation is to sell cheaper but more primitive forms of technology, most famously their Working Joe synthetics and APOLLO AI supercomputers. Weyland-Yutani on the other hand, don't see them as a mjaor threat to their business.

The Independent Core System Colonies, or ICSC, is a loose conglomerate of privately-owned worlds located in the Core Systems of the New Eden Sector. All colony worlds in the ICSC had their own independent governments, many of which were overseen by corporations.

In the US Colonial Marine Corps, a rifleman is also trained as a capable multi-disciplinarian, from null gravity combat to hotwiring doors. As one of them, you are a reasonably intelligent, capable soldier who is a reasonably valuable asset to the United Americas.

The UPP is a result of escalating predatory activity by the United Americas and Three World Empire, as well as increasing desperation in the face of famines and poverty. They are a collection of the former EU states, Slavic countries, and some parts of Asia who have unified and adopted socialism as a protective measure. Despite what Hollywood will tell you, they're far from the Red Ivan Communists though.

As part of an attempt to increase recruitment numbers, the Serve or Jail Act allows select United Americas convicts and prisoners to enlist in the USCMC and complete their sentence. Requirements are strict, and there is a zero tolerance policy in place.

The Marine Corps operates some platoons on a reduced force organization, intended for flexibility and rapid deployment on the long rim. This consists of two marine squads, a corpsman, a platoon sergeant, and the platoon's commanding officer. Squads are made up of three rifleman, one smartgunner. This setup improves responsiveness and supply requirements, but drastically cuts readiness for sustained or large-scale high intensity combat.

Despite what breathless news reports will say, there is no real war between the United Americas and Union of Progressive Peoples on the frontier. While the UA's Marine Corps and UPP Space Operating Forces will come into skirmishes and even cross atomic swords, it remains in the realm of border incidents and largely isolated encounters.

The Office of the Colonial Marshals (OCM) is law enforcement on the frontier, at least within the United Americas' holdings. Their presence is most commonly seen in the Colonial Marshals' Bureau (CMB), ranging from the well equipped SWAT capable forces of large stations and colonies, to small short platoons covering an entire system of small mining operations. Should they be unable to handle a problem, that's where the Marines come in.

Military Police units are usually only seen during large operations to handle large civil populations or keep security in Marine bases. In the field, only small detachments are carried, with the expectation that non-commissioned officers such as the sergeants are to keep order.

USCM FTL is highly dangerous, utilizing a tachyon shunt to get from one destination to the other, speeding up time in the ship itself. When crossing the light speed barrier, a tachyon shunt drive instantly changes the [science stuff] state of the entire vessel and its inhabitants so that it instead cannot go any slower than light speed while remaining in real space. However, this also results in the contents of the ship, inhabitants included, experiencing time dilation while in transit. Hence, cryosleep is required.

this is p simplified but like oh my god i do not wanna try and explain relativistic dilation

Launched from drydock less than a year prior, the destruction of the original Bougainville-class Golden Arrow in June 2182 put the United Americas PR department in a mad scrmable to save the reputation of the Bougainville class as a whole, having only been put into service January 2182. Officially, the Golden Arrow is listed as a Bougainville on all official records despite it's class actually being a Conestoga, and as such being much larger than official records state. This quick response has led to there being several hour long delays in docking due to not having an unoccupied dock capable of fitting the sheer size of a Conestoga.

The blurb I wrote was based on the Alien RPG sourcebook "Colonial Marines Operations Manual", since it's the one material that goes the deepest with military lore in the Alienverse. The LACN and CCAF are also from that book. But from what I gathered, it was first referenced in bonus material in a random box-set, where Dallas and Parker from the first movie are veterans of it.

Not sure about those first two, predators should be entirely unknown to the marines in character and we've already kinda got issues with people pretending they've seen them before, same with whiteout and things like that.

Second is kinda ehh, since the lore tidbits IMO should be a bit broader in what they talk about. Mooost marines wouldn't know this.

The last two, however, are very nice inclusions.

Just noticed the CLF doesn't have anything written on them. They are basically OCs from the devs of CM-SS13 so this is based/taken from the PvP wiki

The Colonial Liberation Front (CLF) is a paramilitary group primarily located in the Neroid sector of United Americas space. Their stated goal is to secure the independence of all of the colonies in the Neroid sector. They are the largest and most active militant group pushing for the independence of the colonies. The United Americas government classifies the CLF as a terrorist organization, with membership in the organization or providing financial or material support for the CLF being prosecutable offenses.

Due the lack of general presence of military and law enforcement forces in the Neroid sector, the unsatisfied colonists formed militias to protect their homes. The lack of governmental presence and self-organization actually meant the colonists actually felt safer and secure under autonomous rule. The situation changed in 2181 as the United Americas moved the USCM 4th Brigade, 3rd Battalion, the 'Dust Raiders', of the USS Alistoun, to the sector. The Colonial Liberation Front (CLF) were quickly formed and the situation escalated into a full-blown bloody uprising, which only ended after a kamikaza attack left the Alistoun heavily damaged. The CLF considers the withdrawal of the Dust Raiders, and the diminished presence of the Colonial Marshals, to be proof of their independence.

The CLF hold an aggressive stance against the UPP as they are openly opposed to any major power that may try to bring them under heel. However, various cells of the CLF maintain secret ties with UPP special forces who engage in smuggling weapons and military training of guerrilla forces to fight the USCM.

The founding event of the CLF is the "Slaughter of Xibou," where, in 2164, colonist Atticus Graves called for Xibou's independence through a manifesto advocating armed rebellion against the United Americas government. Believing that determined colonists could resist the USCM, Graves formed a militia that briefly seized control of Xibou. However, the USCM brutally suppressed the uprising, indiscriminately killing both militia members and civilians. This massacre polarized the colonies, leading some to abandon the movement, while others became more radicalized, marking a key turning point in the rise of the CLF.

And here's one foreshadowing Alien Ressurection:

With each passing year, discussions intensify about a potential union between the United Americas and the Three-World Empire. These two superpowers already share significant ties, but their strongest connection lies in their mutual opposition to the UPP and the recent enigmatic spread of Xenomorphs. The proposed name for this alliance is the "United Systems."

i think W-Y has gotten a little too all-encompassing. people focus on faces and W-Y played a large role, but it doesn't do everything. maybe as the largest plurality but like... i dunno. feels a little too gamey and artificial to just W-Y this and that and here and there and everywhere

Great. If you have anything better to write about the CFL (something completely made up for PvP and has zero pre-estabilished lore from any form of media in the Alien franchise), please do it so. 👍

what if we just had a generic insurgents faction with a couple different setups for each role and just added context like names purpose goals... . organically?

Some more ideais I had:

The Interstellar Commerce Commission (ICC) is the central organization through which interstellar trade is conducted and monitored. All trade vessels and crew members are required to hold an ICC licence. The ICC holds a considerable ammount of power, as they can enforce enforce planetary and system quarantines, and organised and coordinated "police actions" and other military operations against colonies that had been for one reason or another declared in fragrant violation of ICC regulations. In extreme cases (such as uncontrollable outbreaks), the ICC can also order a full planetary sterilisation by nuclear bombardment or other means.

Some UPP military forces include the Space Operating Forces Naval Infantry, with a role analogous to the US' Colonial Marine Corps — focusing on force projection, interstellar expeditionary warfare, and rapid reaction force. Another is the People's Territorial Guard, a lightly equipped military reserve and home guard force used for local colonial defense.

A really important suggestion that would help with record creation and such:

The current year is 2182!

The sentry gun is affected by obstacles. If placed behind a barricade or boulder, it'll shoot at something beyond the obstacle but will only hit the obstacle, not the target.

Blast grenades provide an effective way to deal with barriers, while fragmentation grenades are more effective against personnel.

Try to keep the tone of the situation in mind, but don't stick to it obsessively.
