Denial of Service in Apache Commons Compress

CVE-2019-12402 / GHSA-53x6-4x5p-rrvv

More information

Details

The file name encoding algorithm used internally in Apache Commons Compress 1.15 to 1.18 can get into an infinite loop when faced with specially crafted inputs. This can lead to a denial of service attack if an attacker can choose the file names inside of an archive created by Compress.

Severity

  • CVSS Score: 7.5 / 10 (High)
  • Vector String: CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H

Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency in Compress

CVE-2021-35516 / GHSA-crv7-7245-f45f

More information

Details

When reading a specially crafted 7Z archive, Compress can be made to allocate large amounts of memory that finally leads to an out of memory error even for very small inputs. This could be used to mount a denial of service attack against services that use Compress' sevenz package.

Severity

  • CVSS Score: 7.5 / 10 (High)
  • Vector String: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H

Excessive Iteration in Compress

CVE-2021-35515 / GHSA-7hfm-57qf-j43q

More information

Details

When reading a specially crafted 7Z archive, the construction of the list of codecs that decompress an entry can result in an infinite loop. This could be used to mount a denial of service attack against services that use Compress' sevenz package.

Severity

  • CVSS Score: 7.5 / 10 (High)

CVE-2021-35517 / GHSA-xqfj-vm6h-2x34

More information

Details

When reading a specially crafted TAR archive, Compress can be made to allocate large amounts of memory that finally leads to an out of memory error even for very small inputs. This could be used to mount a denial of service attack against services that use Compress' tar package.

Severity
