Hi there! 👋

I am an Assistant Professor at the Physics Institute at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. My research focuses on the connection between dark and luminous matter in galaxy clusters, taking advantage of the intersection between optical and CMB surveys to study them using the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect and weak gravitational lensing. I am also interested in the evolution of cluster galaxies, particularly their dark matter content, and in the intrinsic alignment of galaxies.

I am a member of a number of international collaborations, whose data I use to address these issues, including:

Latest Research

  • In Sifón et al. (2024, submitted) we present the selection of cluster and supercluster sample for CHANCES and an initial assessment of the structure surrounding them based on optical photometry.
  • In Shirasaki, Sifón, et al. (2024) we estimate the mean masses of ACT SZ-selected clusters using galaxy weak lensing measurements from the HSC-SSP survey.
  • In Sifón & Han (2024) we study the evolution of the relation between dark and stellar mass in cluster galaxies in the EAGLE simulation using the improved HBT+ galaxy catalogue.
  • In Robertson, Sifón, et al. (2024) we determined the mean mass of clusters selected with the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect by measuring their weak gravitational lensing effect on distant galaxies.
  • In Hilton, Sifón, et al. (2021) we presented the latest galaxy cluster catalog selected with the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect, thanks to large overlap with all major optical-NIR surveys. The catalog contains 4,200 galaxy clusters, of which 868 are new. This sample is twice as large as the total number of SZ-selected clusters prior to it!
  • In Madhavacheril, Sifón, Battaglia, et al. (2020), we used data from ACT to measure the average mass of distant galaxy clusters from the MaDCoWS survey using the gravitational lensing effect imprinted on the CMB.
  • In Herbonnet, Sifón, et al. (2020), we used weak gravitational lensing to accurately measure the masses of 100 massive galaxy clusters, aided with extensive image simulations, in order to improve our ability to use galaxy clusters as cosmological probes.
  • In Sifón et al. (2018b) we studied the impact of galaxy clusters on the mass content of their member galaxies using detailed weak gravitational lensing measurements.
  • In Sifón et al. (2018a) we presented the first measurement of the average mass of "ultra-diffuse galaxies": large, diffuse galaxies that, unexpectedly, abound in massive galaxy clusters.
