I took the quotes out here, but was hesitant to remove them from the actual title as they serve the purpose of differentiating that the domains are auto-renew only in the search so people don't end up here vs in domain auto-renewal (I am very open to suggestions here re: the title)

I totally get you. Here are some options: Auto-Renewal Mandatory Domains or Auto-Renewal Exclusive Domains, just brainstorming here.

Certain domain names are **auto-renew only** and cannot be renewed manually. For these domains, it's important to have the [auto-renewal feature turned on](/articles/domain-auto-renewal) at least 1 month prior to the expiration date.

The best solution is to always have auto-renewal enabled. We notify you 2 months before a domain is auto-renewed, so you can disable auto-renewal if you don't want to keep the domain.

What happens if it's unsuccessful?

## When does auto-renewal happen?

Auto-renewal usually occurs within 30 days prior to the domain's expiration date. As such, this figure may vary from domain to domain.
Auto-renewals are processed automatically and usually occur within 30 days before the domain's expiration date. This timeline may vary for each domain.

You can enable auto-renewal when you first register a domain or any time after the domain has been registered. However, it cannot be turned on within 30 days of the expiration date.

Auto-renewals are processed automatically within the final 30 days of registration. Enabling auto-renewal a few days before expiration is not enough to ensure the domain is automatically renewed – increasing the risk of losing the domain. Likewise, if you want to let a domain expire but you turn off auto-renewal a few days before the expiration, the domain may already be auto-renewed and you can't get a refund for it.
