Off-topic but I found https://reviews.freebsd.org/D30130 useful to explain why/how FreeBSD handles this.

Thanks for merging! That's a neat find.

It does look like the NO_NEW_PRIVS concept may have come about earlier, and may be in Linux as well. I hope other BSDs and Linux adopt this as well.
