Software and Driver for Esrille Unbrick provides device drivers and other utilities to use analog stick, touch screen, and other devices included in Esrille Unbrick.

Installing Software and Driver for Esrille Unbrick

1. Download the Raspbian with desktop image

Visit https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ and download Raspbian with desktop. Note this software has been tested with,

• 2019-07-10-raspbian-buster.zip
• 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch.zip
• 2018-11-13-raspbian-stretch.zip

2. Flash the Raspbian image to your SD card

Download Etcher if you need an easy flashing tool.

3. Copy cmdline.txt and config.txt to your SD card

Copy customized cmdline.txt and config.txt into the /boot partition of your SD card.

• The customized cmdline.txt disables the serial console since Unbrick uses the serial port for communicating with the internal peripherals.
• The customized config.txt enables the LCD screen and other devices included in Esrille Unbrick.

Please select cmdline.txt and config.txt files that matches your raspbian release:

If you're using the kernel release 4.14, select rpi-4.14.y branch. The current default branch is rpi-4.19.y, which is used in 2019-07-10-raspbian-buster.zip.

Note on Raspbian Stretch released on 2019-04-08

Raspbian Stretch released on 2019-04-08 has a compatibility issue with the uart0 overlay. To enable UART0 and DPI at the same time, unbrick/boot.2019-04-08/config.txt uses a customized eub_uart0 overlay instead of the default uart0 overlay. See raspberrypi/linux#2856 for more details.

If you upgrade 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch using the apt command, the linux kernel release version might change from 4.14 to 4.19. When the linux kernel release version is changed, reinstall the unbrick device drivers from the rpi-4.19.y branch.

4. Boot your Unbrick

Insert your SD card to your Unbrick, and connect keyboard, mouse and network adapter. Then boot your Unbrick. Configure your network adapter at this point.

5. Copy unbrick directory to your home directory in your Unbrick

Open Terminal. Copy unbrick directory to /home/pi/unbrick.

$ cd
$ git clone https://github.com/esrille/unbrick.git

If you're using the kernel release 4.14, check out the rpi-4.14.y branch:

$ git checkout rpi-4.14.y

The current default branch is rpi-4.19.y, which is used in 2019-07-10-raspbian-buster.zip.

Alternatively, if you're using Linux, you may copy unbrick directory to /rootfs/home/pi/unbrick in your SD card in step 3.

6. Install device drivers and other utilities

Execute,

$ cd unbrick
$ ./install.sh

to install device drivers and other utilities.

After install.sh completes, reboot your Unbrick. Now you'll be able to use analog stick, touch screen, and other devices included in Unbrick.
