This page is for contributors to post spec/build ideas for characters. We'll use these ideas to inspire quests, equipment, encounters, etc.
Berserker
- A melee build with abilities that give large buffs for a short period. After the buff expires, the player is inflicted with an equal and opposite debuff for a short while. This should encourage the player to fight all-out for a while, then retreat while recovering.
- Strong against: short but intense encounters
- Weak against: long encounters
Alchemist
- The alchemist's spells are fueled by gold. They also have a passive abilities to enhance gold drops. Gold-fueled spells should be somewhat stronger than average.
- Strong when: the player has lots of gold
- Weak when: the player's gold reserves are low
Elemental Archer
- Projectiles shot by this archer become attuned to an element. This build focuses on flexibility vs. different creature types.
- Strong against: Creatures with strong elemental weaknesses
- Weak against: Creatures with strong elemental resistances
Poisoner
- Attacks that cause the enemy to take high damage over time while ignoring the creature's absorb value. The player could kite the affected creatures while they die.
- Strong against: slower, high-absorb creatures
- Weak against: fast, high-hp creatures
Frenzy Mage
- Wild, unpredictable magic fuels this character. The spells are rapid-fire and powerful, but may fly in any direction, so actually hitting the target is difficult. Maybe have a spell that chains itself every time it hits a creature, so it's devastating against large groups. Maybe also have a large damage range, so it feels like abilities are very random in that regard also.
- Strong against: large groups
- Weak against: single targets
Nuker
- This character has very powerful AoE spells, but those spells are also dangerous to the player! Use with discretion. The abilities also have a slow cooldown, so the idea is to finish the fight almost before it happens.
- Strongest against: Large groups of easy enemies
- Weak when: Played by a careless player
Barrier Wielder
- This character has low health and is weak to damage, but mitigates it by having a very powerful shield spell, and hopefully never takes direct damage. Has an aura that causes nearby enemies to take damage. This barrier can also reflect missiles.
- Strong against: Ranged enemies, slow enemies
- Weak against: Fast, melee enemies
Traps & Turrets
- This player sets up kill zone with traps and turrets, then lures an enemy into that area. The traps cause enemies to get stuck while the turrets finish them off.
- Strong against: Single, powerful enemies
- Weak against: Large swarms of creatures
Decoy Summoner
- This build conjures many weak, short-lived summons to distract enemies. They don't do any damage, but they might apply debuffs to the targeted enemies.
- Strong because: Reduces effectiveness of swarms of enemies
- Weak because: Generally low damage output
Bomber
- Explosives are available as rare random drops and are also purchasable. They probably come attached with a "throw bomb" power. Bombers, on the other hand, have alternative abilities which consume explosives. These abilities let the player throw cluster bombs, set a bomb on a timer, drop proximity mines, and even create seeking bombs. Explosives do a lot of damage, but take a lot of inventory space. Maybe they don't stack or have very small stack limits.
- Strong when: Lots of explosives available
- Weak because: Can easily run out of explosives
Shapeshifter
- Has several transformations that focus on different combat styles: Offense, Defense, Ranged, etc.
- Strong because: Versatile abilities
- Weak because: Often loses bonuses from equipment?
These are ability ideas, but in and of themselves probably couldn't flesh out a whole build.
- Polymorpher: Can force an opponent to transform into a harmless creature for a time. Damaging the creature causes it to revert to the normal form.
- Vortex: Force opponents to teleport next to you, then unleash a large AoE damage spell. Has generally high defense.
- Blinker: Randomly teleport yourself and other creatures.
- Jailor Use conjured walls to trap enemies.
- Blood Summoner Use HP to conjure minions.
- Dominator Forcefully controls enemies for a short time.
