Now that the handbook is published on IPFS, I took the text found on hypha.coop's footer regarding DWeb publishing with Distributed Press and adapted it to the handbook's homepage.

This handbook is published using Distributed Press. You can use it to publish on the p2p and distributed web too. Distributed Web: ipns://handbook.hypha.coop/

I initially though of adding this text at the bottom of the sidebar next to Published with HonKit but instead went with the homepage to give it more visibility.

Adding it in the sidebar would require modifying the default HonKit theme and I am not convinced it is worth it.

Looks good to me. Could also be useful to include hyper in there or a non-gatewat URL too.

Good point.
Here are my thoughts:

  • IPFS/IPNS: The link's text is currently ipns but it's destination is indeed using a gateway. The format is replicated from hypha.coop. If we do include a non-gateway link I believe we should also mention that it will only work with IPFS-enabled browsers. Maybe we include both links with the mention that one of them will only work on certain browsers.
  • HYPER: I am still unable to access the handbook on HYPER. Wondering if it is an issue with my Agregore browser on Windows? @RangerMauve, Can you confirm that hyper://handbook.hypha.coop/ does work for you?

When trying to access the handbook via Hyper, both hyper://handbook.hypha.coop/ and hyper://ujwz78uocfowdkz57km47w89m5dtrgwj6jfmp83b8nq7buy9kuco/ return the same error message:

Error: Could not find data in drive, make sure your key is correct and that there are peers online to load data from at getDriveError: Could not find data in drive, make sure your key is correct and that there are peers online to load data from at getDrive

Will merge this now since it is good to go. We can revisit the idea of linking directly to the DWeb and improve instructions for those links to make it clear that you need DWeb-enabled browsers for access without gateways. Opened #277 to keep track of these issues.
