Question 1
In regards to Helix
It states the focus on Gov / Academia / Industry

If our business initially includes and helps City / Academia / Industry.
When we scale it Nationwide then GOV will come into play GOV / Academia / Industry
So will this disqualify our application?

Question 2
Can you elaborate and give us an example answer of the inclusive question? Equity?

Thanks

Question 1: In regards to SUTL Helix

  • We are not expecting applicants to address each area of the triple helix with these projects, we are more looking to build the "stock" of organizations working in each vertical with the RAILS grant program (e.g. moblity, IoT/Cyber, etc.) in Sacramento. So which of those sectors (Government, Academia, Industry) your project does or does not include will not disqualify you.

Question 2: Can you elaborate and give us an example answer of the inclusive question? Equity?

  • I believe you are referring to the question "How will your project be inclusive? Please describe how your project addresses equity and inclusion."

Our Statement of inclusion defines equity as "the inclusion and fair representation of multiple diverse populations in outreach and in the allocation of funding, resources, and programs, providing equitable and fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all people, while at the same time striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some communities". We define diversity as "all the ways in which people differ, including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, geography, citizenship status, religion, language, physical appearance, and those affiliating with multiple identities. Our definition also includes diversity of thought: ideas, perspectives, and values."

In the past, we've looked to fund programs that serve diverse communities that are underrepresented. We have grantees that support growing industries, communities that are regularly under-served, and programs viewing social innovation and entrepreneurship in new ways. In this round of RAILS we are also looking for geographic diversity to support some of Sacramento's neighborhoods that do not typically see the benefits of some of these types of programming.
