Data Set Registration
Wiki ▸ Data Set Registration
Documentation and discussion of the data set registration process.
New data providers must register with the DAC prior to submitting data sets. Once registered, the guide below highlights the steps involved in submitting data sets to the IOOS Glider Data Assembly Center.
- User Registration
- Acquire WMO id
- Register the Data Set
- Upload Data Files
- Metadata Changes
- Track Data Set Status
A user account is required in order to submit real-time and delayed-mode data sets to the U.S. IOOS Glider Data Assembly Center. New users must submit a request for a user account by contacting the DAC administration team. Accounts are generally created the same day as the request is submitted.
A WMO id is required in order to release real-time glider profiles to the Global Telecommunication System. WMO ids are used to uniquely identify a meteorological or oceanographic platform. Historically, WMO ids were assigned to a platform based on the WMO region in which they were originally deployed. Under the current rules, however, WMO ids that have previously been assigned to a glider for one deployment region can now be used regardless of the new deployment location. So, if a glider has been assigned a WMO id, it may continue to be used for that glider deployed anywhere in the world.
WMO id assignment is now handles by the OceanGliders Program. WMO id requests should be sent to the Glider DAC administration team. While all of the information below is not strictly required for a WMO id request, we strongly recommend providing as many items as possible. This information is used by OceanGliders Program to ensure the data set is accurately described and updated in a timely manner.
- Glider call sign: required
- Glider serial number: required
- First and last name of the primary point of contact: required
- Email address of the primary point of contact: required
- Phone number of the primary point of contact: required
- Primary point of contact's institution: required
- First tentative deployment date: recommended
- Approximate location of the first deployment recommended
- Program or project name under which the deployment will be funded required
WMO id requests are typically fulfilled within 24 hours and, as a general rule, the request window should be within 7 - 10 days of the anticipated first deployment.
Data set status for both real-time and delayed mode glider data sets can be tracked on the IOOS Glider Data Assembly Center's Data Set Status Page.
