Welcome to the ECEB wiki!

The action plan is as follows:

0 to 60 minutes after baby birth

  • Continue skin-to-skin care & monitor breathing

60 to 90 minutes after baby birth

  • Initiate breastfeeding (to prevent diseases of eye care, cord care & give vitamin K) and
  • Assess the weight, temperature & examine the baby

90 minutes to 24 hours after birth

If the examination is:

  • Normal – Maintain normal temperature
    ==> support breastfeeding
    ==> advise about breastfeeding problems
    ==> Immunize
    ==> Reassess baby for discharge
    ==> Give parents guidance for home care

  • Problem

    1. Abnormal temperature
      ==> Improve thermal care
      ==> Normal
      ==> Improve thermal care
      ==> Requires continued thermal support
      ==> Prolong skin-to-skin

    2. Under 2000g
      ==> Prolong skin-to-skin
      ==> Requires continued care
      ==> Continue inpatient care

    3. Poor feeding
      ==> Express breast milk
      ==> Use alternative feeding method
      ==> Requires continued care
      ==> Continue inpatient care

  • Danger sign (Fast breathing, chest in the drawing, temperature <35 or >37.5, not feeding, no movement, convulsions
    ==> Give antibiotics
    ==> Seek advanced care

  • <1500g or severe jaundice
    ==> Seek advanced care
