Several basic operations are failing in Julia 1.7.1 (and most likely in 1.7.0, but not in 1.6.5).

Showing the matrix fails:

X = ThreadedSparseMatrixCSC(sprand(10,5,0.3))

Adding a dense matrix fails

X + randn(size(X))

It seems related to the _checkbuffers function that has been introduced for SparseMatrixCSC in SparseArrays/src/sparsematrix.jl.

I will try to investigate more soon if I find the time.
