The [Century Families of Ohio
(CFO)](https://www.ogs.org/about/lineage/cfo/) is a lineage society
under the [Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS)](https://www.ogs.org/),
dedicated to recognizing the descendants of individuals who lived in
Ohio from 1861 to 100 years before the year of application. At the time
of this application, that was 1924. Membership in CFO acknowledges the
deep-rooted connection to Ohio's history and heritage. Members provide
documented proof of their ancestors' residency in Ohio during the
specified period, helping to preserve the state's genealogical and
historical records.

### Mina Hall and Charles Franklin Cavender

[Mina Elizabeth Hall](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hall-76727), born on
February 9, 1888, in Paulding County, Ohio, was a teacher and homemaker.
She married [Charles Franklin
Cavender](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cavender-524), born on July 23,
1892, in Newton, Miami County, Ohio, who worked as a farmer. Their lives
reflect the everyday experiences of Ohioans during their time. They were
the parents of [Mary Jane
Cavender](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cavender-523), who later married
[Ralph Everett Rees](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rees-4585),
continuing the family's legacy in Ohio.

Because I was unable to find a birth record for Mina, the first date I
am able to prove she was resident in Ohio is as of December 8, 1915,
when she and Charles received their marriage certificate.

### Legacy

Mina and Charles's connection to Ohio provides a glimpse into the
state's past and the lives of its residents. Their documented lineage,
including their marriage and the birth of their daughter Mary Jane,
establishes the family's eligibility for the Century Families of Ohio.
This membership highlights the continuity of the family's presence in
the region and their contributions to its community.

> Member _jure_ Ralph Everett Rees (World War II); member no. 48
The [Military Order of the Daughters and Sons of Ohio
(MODSO)](https://www.ogs.org/about/lineage/modso) is a lineage society
dedicated to honoring and preserving the legacy of Ohio residents who
served in the armed forces of the United States or the British colonial
forces before the American Revolutionary War. As part of the [Ohio
Genealogical Society](https://www.ogs.org/), MODSO recognizes
individuals who can prove descent from these servicemen and women. The
society's mission is to celebrate and document the contributions of
these military ancestors, ensuring their sacrifices and stories are
remembered for future generations.

One of the notable members of my family who qualifies for recognition by
MODSO is my maternal grandfather, [Ralph Everett
Rees](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rees-4585). Ralph served in the
[Army of the United
States](https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Army_of_the_United_States)
during World War II. His service began with a [deployment to North
Africa](https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/allied-military-operations-in-north-africa),
but as Axis forces led by Rommel were retreating, he was redirected and
retrained as a paratrooper. On his [first jump over
Sicily](https://www.asomf.org/airborne-operations-in-sicily-operation-husky/),
Ralph was shot in the leg by a Nazi soldier. He endured 12 months as a
prisoner of war before being transferred to a military hospital in Long
Island, New York. Following his recovery, Ralph returned to Troy, Ohio,
where he worked for [The Hobart Manufacturing
Company](https://www.hobartcorp.com/). After retiring, he pursued
farming in nearby Casstown.

My membership in MODSO allows me to honor Ralph's bravery and resilience
while supporting the society's mission of preserving Ohio's rich
military history. Through this membership, I aim to contribute to the
recognition and appreciation of the countless Ohioans whose service and
sacrifices have shaped our nation's history.

The Settlers and Builders of Hamilton County (SBHC) is a lineage society
under the Hamilton County Genealogical Society (HCGS), dedicated to
recognizing the descendants of pioneers who lived in Hamilton County
between January 1, 1821, and December 31, 1860. Membership in SBHC
acknowledges a family's deep-rooted connection to Hamilton County's
history and heritage. Members provide documented proof of their
ancestors' residency in the county during this specified period,
contributing to the preservation of the county's genealogical and
historical records.

### Cordelia Curran

[Cordelia Curran](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Curran-3638), born about
1858 in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a direct link to the pioneering families of
Hamilton County. Her life and legacy offer a window into the county’s
formative years and the experiences of its early residents. Through the
process of genealogical research, it has been confirmed that Cordelia
resided in Hamilton County during the crucial period of settlement and
growth.
