Change description

  • This PR will remove the tcp_congestion_control specification of BBR from the image-builder. Cloud providers default's are typically the preferred and most optimal. AKS, EKS and GKE are all set to cubic by default.

  • I've also noticed that when TCP congestion does occur (at least in Azure) BBR performs poorly and packet drops occur at a much higher rate.

Hi @BrennenMM7. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes-sigs member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

Instructions for interacting with me using PR comments are available here. If you have questions or suggestions related to my behavior, please file an issue against the kubernetes-sigs/prow repository.

Congrats on your first PR here :)
Looks like it was added to reduce latency 0e74c18

Maybe you can make the change configurable so that users can turn it off if needed?

I don't think that it's actually achieving any gains in latency, any provider I test in latency stays generally the same while throughput suffers. Granted the only way to test this is by performing extreme benchmarks to trigger TCP congestion. In my iperf3 tests though it seems to showcase the cloud providers defaults are better.

The previous change seems to be adding for their specific use case rather than general consensus?

I'm unsure where I'd place this item to make it configurable, perhaps it should be default first with an option to override?
