I do not know why this happens (commenting out c2f status conversion works- don't give error) but earlier too i encountered similar error
For now we can merge this , in future if we encounter something in which the returned status array is used somewhere then we would try to fix it, currently it is not needed for now i guess, so we can merge it.
Also to add that error is not catchable by me on my machine

With these PR getting merged i guess we are in good shape for #121
We need to add two MRE for MPI_Gatherv adn MPI_Allgatherv with MPI_CHARACTER datatype which was failing earlier and we are good to close it
