This issue is reported by RetroPie forums user thelostsoul who had trouble posting this issue themselves.
thelostsoul reports that with the rewind feature enabled, some games crash with a memory error.
Some examples:
Fever SOS: dfeveron.zip
Land Maker: landmakr.zip
Mazinger: mazinger.zip
Sexy Parodius: sexyparo.zip
Strikers 1945 2: s1945ii.zip
The Simpsons: simpsons.zip
Twin Bee Yahhoo: tbyahhoo.zip
X-Men: xmen2p.zip
One theory is that this crash happens when rewind is enabled but the game does not support savestates.

Mortal Kombat (and Midway games in general) do not support savestates but do not crash when it is enabled. It probably crashes particular titles. In my opinion this should be fixed and rewind should be automatically disabled when savestates are not supported.
