I opted to put the airport code in each marker and eliminate the table below the map in favor of an info window that appears when each marker is clicked. I also addressed the issues of selecting items in the drop-down that correspond to an existing marker by having the map pan to that marker. Markers can be removed by clicking the link within the info window.
