Python 3.6 is deprecated since December and the test run in CI is now failing because of some undefined future feature: SyntaxError: future feature annotations is not defined

I am working on reactivating CI with github actions.
Comments and help is welcome. I am also busy with other stuff at the moment so I do not have a fixed schedule for this. After the CI works again and is green I want to make a release.
