Welcome, human! I'm Mark 👋

Pronouns Nationality Location

I'm a theoretical physicist by training and entrepreneur & pythonista by choice. I co-founded the Toronto-based biotech startup ProteinQure where we built one of the world's first computational platforms for protein therapeutics (think 3D CAD for molecules) and the Quantum Open Source Foundation. Nowadays, I spent most of my time managing the ML team at ProteinQure whilst also doing all of the interior design for our new company office. On the technical side, I'm working on multi-property optimization algorithms using deap and Bayesian optimization, designing proteins & peptides with generative AI such as RFDiffusion and ColabDesign as well as spending a lot of time building proprietary ML models for peptide drug delivery & discovery together with my team at ProteinQure. My MSc was about "Learning Curves of Quantum Kernel Machines" which made extensive use of quantum-classical hybrid networks built with PennyLane and TensorFlow Quantum.

Quick facts:

  • 💬 Ask me about Machine learning for drug discovery & protein engineering, Python, quantum computing, open source software, 3D printing and my many hobbies
  • 📫 Talk to me on the QOSF Slack channel
  • ⚡ Fun fact: I like climbing frozen waterfalls in the middle of winter.

Snapshot:

  • 💻 My current favourite open source project is Polaris - Benchmarks for AI models in drug discovery
  • 🌱 I’m currently learning: peptide diffusion models, Vietnamese, trad climbing
  • 👯 I’m looking to collaborate on Quantum Open Source Software and Protein Drug Discovery
  • 🤔 I’m looking for help with some QOSF projects revolving around quantum software
  • ⌨️ My work setup consists of: Moonlander MK 1 split keyboard & Kensington SlimBlade Trackball
  • 🖨️ I’m currently 3D printing parts for my camper van
  • 🎮 I’m currently playing Duolingo & Brilliant
  • 🚐 I’m currently climbing a lot of rock and hanging out with my pet snakes
