~old 1.1 mods
Information on mods which were on ExpHC 1.1:
IndustrialCraft^2 (IC2) adds a ton of new industrial technology to Minecraft.
Bronze can be made from copper and tin, both more abundant than iron. Depending on your luck, you may be able to make a full set of bronze armor (30% more durable than iron armor) and several bronze tools (350 uses, more durable than iron, but slightly slower) before iron.
The advanced machinery of IC2 can be used to efficiency produce material for use in other mods, such as iron or flint for Flan's Plane Mod.
Many IC2 machines behave differently when interacted with while sneaking. For details see https://github.com/mushroomhostage/exphc/issues/6 . If you have trouble opening a macerator GUI (etc.), try sneaking and unsneaking (tap shift), then right-click to open the GUI.
Buildcraft adds pipes, engines, and other technology.
RedPower adds a integrated redstone circuits, as well as a variety of aesthetic functionality.
Eloraam's blog - RedPower development
Sapphire, emerald, and ruby gems can be used to create pickaxes and other tools, but are most useful for making handsaws. Handsaws can cut a variety of blocks into different shapes (microblocks) for decorative purposes.
Marble caves and basalt volcanos are a good source of decorative blocks. They can be crafted into marble or basalt bricks.
Tungsten ore has no use and cannot be smelted.
The large rubber trees with thick trunks generated by RedPower are not the same as the rubber trees used in IndustrialCraft to obtain sticky resin. However, you can extract RedPower2 rubberwood into sticky resin in an extractor.
Crafting Table II is a better crafting table, freeing you of the need to ever remember a crafting recipe again. Crafted using a book + regular crafting table, the Crafting Table II will show you all items that can be crafted using your inventory, and you simply click to craft.
You can also use Not Enough Items to view crafting recipes (press 'R' to view recipe for an item, 'U' to show recipes that use it),
Crafting Table II can be collected more quickly than normal Crafting Tables, making it convenient to carry and place while travelling.
See also the Project Table from RedPower.
ExpHC 1.1 used Crafting Table II. However, there were major duping bugs with this mod. In ExpHC 1.2.3 it uses QuickBench plugin.
Railcraft enhances rail tracks and minecarts.
You can use Railcraft to build infrastructure connecting various locations (try the high-speed rail, but be careful), to help automate your systems (loader/unloader), or even as a weapon (TNT cart).
Using Smart Moving, you can crawl under Railcraft's tunnel bore.
PlasticCraft adds a new technological tier to Minecraft: plastic!
Wood Flour can be crafted from wood planks, as usual. The recipe is shared with Mo' Food and Crops's (crafts planks into Dishes), so both recipes are accessible using a Crafting Table II, but on a regular crafting table PlasticCraft's recipe is used. For details see https://github.com/mushroomhostage/exphc/issues/2
Night vision can be useful for stealth in tactical situations.
Plastic boats are collectible and more durable, unlike wooden boats. They also have a glass bottom.
C4 plastic explosives are more powerful than TNT.
Leather can be used to make gelatin to make plastic, but it can also be used to build Planes--your choice.
Flan's Plane Mod and airplanes you can build and fly, and Billy's Plane Pack adds several new planes.

Planes can be especially resource-intensive to build. If you need more leather, consider a cow farm. For obtaining more flint and iron, consider a macerator from IndustrialCraft.
Many planes require dyes to craft. Dandelions, roses, and other sources of dye are now useful.
Natural Selection adds several survival-oriented features, including new wildlife and weapons.
Turkeys and deer can be a useful source of food.
Dingos, found in deserts, can be tamed just like wolves (right-click with bone).
Watch out for wild grizzly bears, found in dense forests. They are especially deadly and difficult to kill.
Mo' Food and Crops adds numerous new edible food and growable crops.
Break tall grass to gather various seeds (tomato, lettuce, corn, and more). A water bucket is useful to break large amounts of tall grass.
The tree bucket can be crafted entirely using wood, and can pickup water, making it a cheaper alternative to iron buckets in many cases. Tree buckets cannot pickup lava, but unlike plastic buckets from PlasticCraft, they don't melt when you try to do so.
Fruit trees (apple, orange, avocado, cocoa, and more) are randomly generated by Mo' Food and Crops, and can be a useful source of nutrition while travelling.
Pumpkins are now edible: craft into pumpkin slices using a kitchen knife, then roast for a tasty roasted pumpkin snack.
While many food items can be eaten raw or unprepared, crafting several ingredients together to prepare more complex meals will heal more of your hunger. For example, a cheeseburger will satiate more than steak. For all food level amounts see https://github.com/mushroomhostage/exphc/blob/master/client-config/config/mo%20food%20and%20crops.cfg
Mo' Food and Crops normally crafts one plank into a Dish, but this same recipe is used by PlasticCraft to craft Wood Flour. To fix this, the Dish recipe has been changed; it is now crafted using one Clay Block. The old Wood Plank to Dish recipe is still accessible using a Crafting Table II. For details see https://github.com/mushroomhostage/exphc/issues/2
The cores of eaten apples ("apple snufkin") can be used to plant apple trees, but apparently they don't grow https://github.com/mushroomhostage/exphc/issues/5.
Forestry adds several machines to automate tree farming and other farming tasks. Integrates well with IndustrialCraft and Buildcraft.
Forestry on ExpHC 1.1 did not currently support beekeeping, as it was running an older version (1.2 branch, instead of 1.3). As of ExpHC 1.2.3 the beekeeping feature is present.
Smart Moving lets you climb, dive, sprint, jump, slide, and crawl.
Acquainting yourself with Smart Moving's additional movement capabilities is recommended especially in case you find yourself in a PvP battle. You or your opponent may be able to perform charged-jumps up two-high blocks, free climb on ledges or hanging from iron bars, or crawl through tight 1x1 spaces.
Technically, Smart Moving is optional since clients can connect to Smart Moving servers without it – however, on ExpHC it is strongly recommended since it is required for additional movement capabilities all players should have access to.
Power Converters adds devices to convert IndustrialCraft to Buildcraft.
Balkon's Weapon Mod adds a number of new and useful weaponry.
Several of the new weapons can be crafted with fewer resources than their vanilla alternatives and offer compelling advantages. Knives, particularly can be either used to hit mobs (as swords), or thrown as a projectile weapon, and do not require a crafting table to craft, making them especially useful when first starting out.
Dynamite is disabled on exphc, since IndustrialCraft already has its own dynamite you can use instead.
