DESCRIPTION Halogen is a tool to generate spherically symmetric initial conditions for N-body simulations. A large family of radial density profiles is supported. The initial conditions are sampled from the full distribution function. The details of the method are given in Zemp et al., 2008, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 386, Issue 3, pp. 1543-1556 (ADS: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2008MNRAS.386.1543Z). AUTHOR Marcel Zemp <[email protected]> OFFICIAL SOURCE GitHub: https://github.com/mzemp/halogen DEPENDENCIES math library (should already be installed by default) iof library (https://github.com/mzemp/iof) COMPILATION First, make sure you have installed the iof library. The Makefile assumes that you have installed that in a local library path (e.g. ~/libraries/ under your home directory) and the following environment variable is set (e.g. in your .bashrc file): export LOCAL_LIB_PATH=~/libraries Then clone or download the code from GitHub. In order to compile the code just type make in the halogen code directory: $> make This will generate an executable file called halogen. In order to clean up the code type: $> make clean HELP & OPTIONS You can find help and a list of all command line options by calling: $> halogen -h EXAMPLE Below is a minimal working example that generates a Milky Way sized NFW halo: $> halogen -halo -a 1 -b 3 -c 1 -M 1e12 -rs 20 -rcutoff 300 -N0 1e5 -soft0 1 -ots -name nfw As a result, halogen will output two files: nfw.tipsy.std and nfw.info.dat. The nfw.tipsy.std contains the sampled halo in Tipsy standard (XDR) format and can be visualised with Tipsy (https://github.com/N-BodyShop/tipsy). The nfw.info.dat gives some more detailed output about the sampled structure.
