Why bother

Good question. What you end up with is pretty trailing-edge. However, the intellectual route to get there can be stimulating. For me, I was interested in experimenting with FPGAs, which I have never used before (well, not since they were called PALs..) and interested in playing with a 6809 processor, which I did not have the opportunity to do when it was fresh and new.
