tl;dr
- I will no longer be contributing to Niles
- Hosting will remain up for as long as I can manage
- I'll try to help our in the discord when I can
- Thank you all ❤️
I've finally had to admit to myself that v5.0.0 probably be my last release of Niles. I'm thankful for all of you for sticking with me as I tried to bring Niles up to modern standards but I think it's time for me to say goodbye.
When I started contributing to this project in April 2020 (#29) Sean was already talking about a rewrite of the next version of Niles - Niles 2049 but we were both too busy for a full rewrite so we kept working on Niles instead.
I wanted to rewrite Niles from scratch but ultimately, I don't think I have the motivation to work through it. Maybe one day I'll return but until that day, Pull Requests are welcome and so are new contributions. I'll try to merge the multiple sources into something readable.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has used Niles and endured through the many issues, crashes, restarts and all the mishaps. It has been a pleasure and even though I never ended up using Niles, I'm glad to have met people (and groups) who have done amazing things with him.
A special shout out to Meris for designing the lovable portrait that he bears today, everyone who helped support development financially and the translators for making Niles more accessible and thank you Sean for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow as a be a developer.
I'll try to keep the dust off of him and will try to be around to help in the discord.
Thank you all for everything & goodnight ❤️
