Opinion: Nostr clients should not actively censor speech by default unless the user opts into it. The code that is being removed was altering the meaning and interpretation of authors' content, in ways that the author or reader may not agree with.

I don't like shitcoins, but I also don't have opinion on ones that some people disagree are "shitcoins" like Monero. Moreover, there are words in this list that are legitimate English words. I want to come to my own conclusions about what something is, rather than have my client do it for me. Altering content like this is wrong.

Correct. It's purely a display change.
