The mission of Core Tech WG is: to steward community initiatives towards high-impact technical outcomes. This includes identifying high-priority tech projects (e.g. earmarks), find teams to work on them, and help shepherd those projects to completion.
This page (and its child pages) is dedicated to the earmarks process.
- For R11-R18, we had earmarks. Details are below.
- For R19-, we have OceanDAO Tech Tributes.
There are two approaches for a grant proposal becomes eligible for tech earmarks.
Approach 1:
- In grant proposal form, grant proposer specifies they’re applying for core-tech earmark, and which one
- Proposer posts to the #core-tech WG discord requesting approval by the WG. E.g. write "dear core-tech WG, does this proposal meet the core-tech earmark? [link to proposal]"
- (Optional) feedback / discussion on channel
- Within 48 h, each core tech WG member can vote a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” to the proposer’s original discord message (step 2).
- After 48h passed, any core tech WG member will review results and report formally “it’s a fit” or “it’s not a fit”. (Only votes by WG members are counted.) If disagreement, resolve in next WG mtg.
Approach 2: Steps 2-5 get replaced by: proposer attends a regular weekly core-tech WG meeting (with minimum reasonable quorum), makes the request, and there is a vote right there. This is faster and simpler, we recommend it.
The earmarks list is maintained by the OceanDAO Core Tech Working Group.
