Hi @lucasrodes
Thank you for the references! These data points have been added to our data about 1 hour ago (we have to input the data through an external system).

Hi @edomt,
Thanks for your response.

Two questions:

  • Is it then possible to add new entries to vaccination record files via PR?
  • Is there any other open front where contribution via PR is possible?

I was interested in building some visualization tools for the vaccination process, so I might use this data and could be helping if needed.

Best and happy new year!

Hi @lucasrodes

It's a bit complicated and really depends on the country. You can see part of our system here: https://github.com/owid/covid-19-data/tree/master/scripts/scripts/vaccinations/automations/

Here's where things stand at the moment:

  • Four countries are managed via manual input in an external spreadsheet: Bahrain, China, Israel, Russia.
  • One country is managed via incremental scraping (which means we run a script a couple of times a day to scrape a page, on which the latest number is made available but overwritten by subsequent updates): the United States.
  • Two countries are managed via batch importing: Canada and the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately this system leaves little room for "proper" PR contributions, since incremental and batch updates are run when we update our data, so there's not much need for others to run them.

On the other hand, we welcome external contributions for two things:

  • Countries with manual input (the 4 listed above) where new numbers are available but people don't see them appear in our data after 24 hours.
  • New countries: this is particularly relevant, as several Latin American countries have started vaccinating yesterday, and almost all European countries will start vaccinating on the 27th.

The best place to contribute to those last two items would be this issue that I've just opened: #230
