Mac OS X's 'open' uses the default browser to open an URL. This is most
likely what users expect when they don't explicitly configure another
browser.

Hi,
did you test it? it feels weird. Do Macs "open" a link with just that command?

Yes, I work on Mac. "open" on the command line is like double clicking. It triggers the OS's default action, which is for an URL "open it in the default browser".
