Make an iCloud/iTunes backup before jailbreaking, so that you can go back if something goes wrong.
Once you've installed piRa1n on you Pi, connect it to a power bank and plug your iDevice to the Pi.
piRa1n v4 and above enable "Auto recovery mode" by default, your iDevice should go into recovery mode as soon as it's connected to the Pi. After that, put it into DFU mode.
If "Auto recovery mode" is disabled, first put the iDevice into recovery mode (to avoid file system corruption), then put it into DFU mode.
Recovery mode (source):
- iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
- iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold the Top (or Side) and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
- iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
DFU mode (source):
- iPhone 6S (or earlier) or iPod Touch or iPad Pro Gen 1 (or earlier): Hold down both the Home button and Lock button. After 8 seconds, release the Lock button while continuing to hold down the Home button. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode.
- iPhone 7 or 7 Plus or iPad Pro gen 2: Hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button. After 8 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode.
- iPhone X or iPhone 8/8 Plus: Quick-press the Volume Up button. Quick-press the Volume Down button. Hold down the Side button until the screen goes black, then hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button. After 5 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode.
That's it, enjoy!
