@PerfectGentlemann you don't really have a Github history. Can you tell me a little bit about why you need write access to the ROS 1 Wiki?

I‘m a new comer and genuinely interested in contributing to the ROS Wiki for sharing knowledge and discussing problems. I want to generate my own github webpage with Wiki, so that I can take notes using it.

@PerfectGentlemann I can add you, but be aware that ROS 1 goes end of life in less than 18 months. If you are new to ROS we recommend you use ROS 2 and visit docs.ros.org instead.

Let me know if you still need write access.

May I ask some questions? Will ROS 1 be totally expired then? What if I have some projects based on it?

@PerfectGentlemann -- well, if you have a project based on ROS 1 we recommend you upgrade to ROS 2 prior to ROS 1 going end of life in May 2025.

@jkPF you don't have any get history to speak of, can you briefly tell me why you need write access to the ROS wiki?

@jkPF I have granted you access and thanks for updating the wiki with the relevant ROS 2 info.

Sorry about the delay, I guess I missed the comment e-mail from Github.

Hello, I wanted to add a new page to the wiki about a project from our lab. But I'm not being able to create a new account, following the link provided in here https://wiki.ros.org/HelpOnLogin resulted in a "You don't have permission..." error. I tried to log in with my discourse.ros login (caioconti), without success.

Is creating new users or editing and adding pages to the ROS Wiki deprecated? If so, do you know alternative options?

kscottz commented Mar 6, 2024

@CaioContiG You need to create a wiki account, not a Discourse account, and then post that user name in this thread to get write access.

ROS 1 goes end-of-life in May of 2025. If your project is based on ROS 1 feel free to add it to the Wiki. However, we would recommend migrating to ROS 2 as soon as possible. Generally for ROS 2 we recommend including your documentation in your source repository and then releasing your package via ROS Index so your docs get added to docs.ros.org.

I know it sounds stupid, but I'm not being able to create a new account. If I follow the instructions here to create a new account, it gives an error. Am I missing something? I understand this is not the place to ask but I haven't got any help from stack/reddit.

@pathammer you have been added. Be aware that Noetic goes EOL in ten months. Your time might be better spent migrating your documentation to ROS 2.
