Enable virtualization

marksvc edited this page Jun 10, 2025 · 1 revision

To enable virtualization on your physical host computer, do the following.

  • Reboot your computer.
  • While the screen is still blank, press and hold one or more of the keys F1, F2, F3, F7, F8, F10, F11, F12, ESC, and DEL. You may need to try it a few times to find which key is necessary to stop the boot process and let you get into the BIOS/UEFI setup. Note that this needs to happen before the operating system begins to start.
  • Follow instructions to open the BIOS/UEFI settings/setup.
  • In the BIOS/UEFI setup area look around for "VT-x", "AMD-V", "SVM", and "Virtualization". When you find one of these, enable it, save your settings, and reboot.

Microsoft has a support article on getting to the BIOS/UEFI settings starting from Windows.

Some examples of getting to the BIOS/UEFI setup can be seen at this page.
