Hi, I'm Mat (aka H0R5E), and I'm a scientist and software developer who lives in Ireland.
(I'm English, but don't tell anyone, OK?).

I've been creating software to solve problems in renewable energy for over 20 years, since I first barfed up some MATLAB to model flows around tidal turbines for my undergraduate degree project.

I truly believe in the value of open-source software to the science and engineering community, particularly for nascent technologies such as marine energy, where every dollar counts. I'm lucky enough to have worked on some awesome open-source projects in my field, such as:

• DTOcean - an marine energy array modelling tool
• WecOptTool - a wave energy converter modelling tool
• WEC-Sim - another wave energy converter modelling tool

In particular, I led the software development on the DTOcean project, which was a massive €6M EU project to create a tool for design and economic optimization for marine energy arrays. I worked on it for 7 years until the Python2 infrastructure it was built on became too difficult to maintain.

⭐ So, now, I am looking for your support to help me modernize DTOcean and make it a benefit to the marine energy community again. ⭐

Progress can be followed on the next branch of the repo. I've got a bunch of quality of life improvements planned, such as:

• Full conversion to Python3
• Multi-OS support (it was originally just windows)
• Easier database installation (using SQLite as an alternative to postgreSQL)
