Description

Now that react 16 upgrade is in progress I want to start working on material-ui upgrade here in the open. This is not done but you will be able to see me work on it. Until the react Upgrade is merged this PR will be using the react PR as the base for these changes. Once it's merged I can change the base of the PR.
