The review should not be seen as any sort of evaluation of the tool beyond assessing whether it is a valid submission. Additional checks can be conducted to support this and to assess if there is more information required. The submissions are largely trusted although if there is clear evidence that the submitted information does not match the actual features of the tool then this can and should be clarified with the vendor. This information may become apparent after the tool has been published and we can change the submission to accurately reflect the features. This should be done with the awareness of the vendor.
Tools that will be included on this list include:
- Tools, applications or extensions that are specifically designed to support the evaluation of digital accessibility.
- Tools that simulate user experience in order to support the identification of accessibility issues.
Tools that will not be included in this list are:
- Assistive technologies, such as screen readers, or voice assistants, that are primarily designed to support people with disabilities using the web.
- Tools that primarily change content or code directly to improve accessibility.
- Checklists of accessibility requirements or Success Criteria.
- Recommendations, best practices, or methodologies about digital accessibility.
- Does the vendor make claims such as "this tool helps you easily find and fix 100% of WCAG issues"? It is not possible to automatically find and/or fix all WCAG issues. In this case, highlight the challenge of 100% automatic coverage to the vendor and ask for clarification of the claim.
- Does the tool form part of a related set of tools? For example, testing packages in the same coding language but designed for different testing frameworks. Ideally these should be grouped together.
- Is there evidence to support the claimed features?
- Does the main link goes to specific information about the tool, and not to a higher-level page such as the company home page?
- Is the link to the accessibility statement for the tool listed?
