Gate: Setup
This document describes the steps needed to set up an own 'Gate in your AltVR worldspace and have it link up to the network.
Please note that the 'Gate is still in development, so things may (are bound to) change on short notice. If that warning doesn’t deter you, feel free to go ahead!
-
A worldspace you own or have access to its properties (the ones listed on AltVR’s web page when you edit items like the access list, the privacy status and so on)
-
Enough space in the given worldspace (the device is 6.8 meters in diameter, so plan accordingly)
-
You having AltspaceVR started in 2D mode (not really a requirement, but makes editing so much easier :)
Note down three links:
-
ws://willneedit-mre.herokuapp.com/app?name=stargate
-
ws://willneedit-mre.herokuapp.com/app?name=sgdialcomp
With the Space Editor in the worldspace,
-
use the first link in the previous section to place an MRE featuring the Gate itself.
-
Use the second link in the previous section to place an MRE featuring the dialing computer.
Since the items are already featured, you can reach them from your AltspaceVR’s account webpage under "More→MRE", and copy the links to your clipboard for easy inclusion in the Space Editor.
-
Open the third link in your browser inside AltspaceVR
You should see the Gate and the Dial Computer’s session ID’s listed, together with the caption "unregistered", below that, you should see the gate address, the world space’s ID and another caption "unregistered" as well as a "Register" button at the bottom.
If one of these entries is missing, re-enter the space.
Once you click on the "Register" button, the captions for the Dial Computer and the Gate should change to the gate address, and the caption for the world should change from "unregistered" to "unlocked".
All set.
The dialing computer should announce its readiness and give out the address of your new 'Gate.
Dial the address LIMAova
using the dial computer’s keyboard. The 'Gate should spin up and connect, allowing you to port to my testing grounds.
Arriving there, you should be able to use the 'Gate address the dialing computer told you to get back to your own worldspace.
Error messages
