Yearn Finance, a guide to building a powerful community through Social Media and IRL events
Having a strong community is crucial for the success of a protocol. In Yearn, we are building an ambassador program to expand and build communities all over the world.
This is a guide on how to start building a community from scratch. It is important to highlight this guide is not written in stone and each ambassador can decide to use it or not, however, these techniques have proved they work while building a strong presence in social media and building communities.
Before launching a social media account its important to have the following topics translated and published so newcomers can understand the goal, the mission, and the culture of Yearn:

- What’s the goal of Yearn Finance?
- Why Yearn is important?
- How to start using Yearn?
- Tools to start using Yearn Finance?
- What’s YFI?
This should be the genesis publication in social media through Youtube, Newsletter, Medium, or a Twitter thread. Whenever this content is published, the contributor can start publishing about Yearn on social media. Normally the type of content that has more engagement are:
- Podcast
- Youtube videos
- Reels (Instagram)
- Tiktok
- Memes
- Tutorials
- Twitter threads
- Twitter polls
- Twitter spaces

Plan ahead the content you want to publish and schedule it.

Web 3 basics: Remember that 96% of the worldwide population doesn't have crypto, providing basic knowledge is one of the most important activities we should provide to onboard more people into the DeFi ecosystem. Tutorials, AMAs, blogposts, Youtube videos, etc.

Yearn Finance content: We are all contributing to Yearn Finance success. Publishing constantly about the benefits of Yearn, the culture and the mission should be the main purpose of Yearn’s social media. Here are some Yearn Finance resources that will provide official content to publish: Medium, Reddit, Telegram, Discord.

Security and DeFi content: In Yearn Finance one of our most important goals is to provide better financial products to obtain the most optimal interest rates of all times. Publishing clear content about the advantages of Yearn Finance vs traditional banking can help new users to try our services.
Once the language channel has gathered a few followers and subscribers it's essential to regularly engage this audience with relevant content. Having constant interaction with the community is vital to keep our channels growing. Its recommended to create live events in real life or virtually constantly, some of the best ways to do this are:
- Twitter spaces.
- Youtube / Twitch live streams.
- AMAs sessions in discord servers.
- Community events in real life.
This will grow a more loyal community that will create more traction on social media and the project in general. Now, you should have a community, followers, and a local community to start producing your own content based on the Yearn Finance culture and objectives. Remember that you can always ask for feedback from contributors and other ambassadors.
Now that you have a regular subscribers base and a decent following, you can start to produce your own content based on the the tips above, organizing local events, memes, and other creative ideas. Some additional tips:
- Underpromise and overdeliver, more when you’re starting a community.
- POAPs are cool! Keep engaged your community by providing POAPs when they join a live stream, twitter spaces, or attend your local event.
- Don't despair and be patient. Building a strong community takes time and leadership, try to keep a good vibe always.
- Don't buy followers, likes, views. It will affect your engagement and your reputation.
- Don't try to be active on all platforms, first try to build an audience on a couple of social media platforms.
