Cement works
In the last years, the cement industry has committed itself to reducing its fossil energy consumption, whilst guaranteeing the maintenance of the quality of the cement. With the use of tyre shred or whole tyres as substitute fuel, cement works play a part in preserving natural resources and in recycling end-of-life products. This solution makes it possible to make savings in petroleum coke, coal and heavy fuel oil. Of course, using tyres takes place under particularly strict and supervised conditions of use. In certain factories, the substitution rate of the traditional fuel sources can attain 50% of the furnace’s heat consumption.
Since 2004, Aliapur has committed to a partnership with the French cement manufacturers Lafarge and Vicat, and the Swiss cement manufacturer Holcim for the delivery of whole or shredded tyres to be used as a substitute fuel. All cement manufacturers taken together, this collaboration makes it possible to recycle around 80,000 tonnes of tyres per year.
