Growthcraft Milk
This module adds a new purpose for Milk. With this mod Milk becomes an actual fluid that you can use for various recipes and process it into useful items such as cheese, kumis, and butter.
The butter churn is used to make butter and butter milk. The churn is crafted using one stick (S) and five wooden planks (P).
The cheese press is created with five Iron Ingots (I), a chest (C), and three wooden planks (P).
The cheese vat is used for making various cheese items. It is crafted by placing a Brew Kettle in a crafting grid.
The pancheon is used to produce Skim Milk and Cream. It is crafted by combining five Clay Balls in a crafting table.
Beeswax is integral in sealing your cheese to preserve and age it. It is used to coat unaged cheese and comes in 16 different variants. However, only 4 get used.
Butter is an edible item and comes in two variants unsalted and salted. It is produced by placing Cream into a Butter Churn.
Stomach drops from baby cows. It is boiled in the Brew Kettle to produce Rennet.
Cheesecloth is used to extract cheese curds from the Vat and strain whey from curds by hanging it on the ceiling..
Starter culture is integral to the cheese making process. It is crafted by placing skim milk in a heated culture jar.
Thistle is a flower that spreads like a mushroom. It spawns naturally on grass blocks in the extreme hills (and variants) biome. It is harvested using your hands. The thistle can be used as an alternative to calf stomach for making Rennet.
Cheese is made by placing Milk, Starter Culture, Rennet into the Cheese Vat to produce Cheese Curds. You can then add additional ingredients to these curds to make a cheese variant. For more information, you can follow the abbreviated steps below.
Killerjdog51
- Player places Vat over heat source
- Player fills Vat with 5 buckets of Milk
- Player places 1 starter culture into Vat
- Player places 1 bottle of Rennet into Vat (You could use a bucket but then you'd waste like 666 milibuckets)
- Player right clicks Vat with sword to stir the mixture and start the process
- Wait for liquid in Vat to turn green, this is Whey fluid
- Player extracts Whey fluid from Vat with bucket (You could use bottles but that will leave 1 milibucket of whey left, & visually not good)
- Player inserts cheese ingredients into Vat (Refer to the chart below)
- Player waits for Vat to change color again. (in this case with Cheddar it will turn an orange-ish yellow color)
- Player right clicks Vat with Cheese Cloth to extract Cheese Curds (this should completely drain the vat, unless you used bottles for whey, uh oh)
- Player hangs Cheese curds under block (this will drain the curds)
- Player right clicks curds when done draining and should pop off
- Player places drained curds into cheese press and press down
- After about 2 minutes or so the curds will be done, you can unpress the cheese press and right click with your hand to have unaged cheese block
- Place unaged cheese block on the ground (some of them should be waxed. after about 2 minutes will change texture and be ready
- Cut the cheese block with the cheese knife to turn them into slices, which can then be used in crafting or consumption.

The ricotta cheese process is an abbreviated version of the regular cheese process.
- Use whey instead of milk with one starter culture and activate it with a wooden sword.
- Skip the cheese ingredients step and go straight to straining it out with the cheese cloth.
- After pressing your drained ricotta curds, you do not age them. Instead, craft it with four wooden bowls to produce four ricotta bowls.
Milk can be used as a drink, in making cheese, butter, ice cream, yogurt, and kumis.
Skim milk is used as a drink and in making starter culture with the culture jar.
Skim milk is produced by placing a bucket of Milk into the Pancheon.
Skim Milk can be placed into a heated culture jar to produce starter cultures for making cheese.
Skim Milk can also be placed in bottles for drinking. Drinking Skim Milk removes negative effects (like vanilla Milk) and heals a small amount of hunger and saturation. With fantasy effects enabled, Skim Milk provides a Speed boost.
Cream is used to make butter and ice cream.
Butter milk is a new drink, a byproduct when making butter. Extract 2 bottles of butter milk after making butter.
Skim milk and sugar in the brew kettle.
Rennet is produced by boiling Stomach or thistle with Water in the Brew Kettle.
Five buckets of milk + a bottle of rennet + a starter culture in cheese vat, right click with a sword, and wait. Base for cheese.
Whey is drinkable and used while making ricotta cheese.

Kumis is a fermented dairy beverage. It has a low alcohol content, comparable to a lite ale. When using Cow's Milk instead of the traditional mare's milk the recipe caps out around 4.5% ABV. Growthcraft Milk provides five variations of Kumis.
