About

This particular guide is meant only for the Automatic/Standard Installation

Important

  • Be sure if you are dealing with a hybrid BIOS/UEFI motherboard. If you are, please consult your motherboard's manual to ensure you are booting the appropriate type of media. This is especially important if you have existing installations in BIOS or UEFI "mode."
  • Be ensure you have carefully read the main wiki page (HOME page) and the Getting Started page.

Guide

  1. Once you have your installation media created, start your computer and enter the boot menu (if need be) to choose the USB key.
  2. Pick "Automatic Installation"
  3. Allow SteamOS to install all the needed files. If you are asked for an install location for GRUB (seen on ISO image installations / BIOS legacy), use /dev/sda1 if you are not sure.
  4. Once SteamOS reboots, it will prepare your graphics drivers and enter desktop mode to update Steam
  5. At this point, if a network connection is present, Steam will update itself. If you do not have a connection to the internet, you will be prompted to configure one.
  6. After Steam updates, the system will restart into the typical SteamOS user experience (steamos-session).
