Rationale

Enrico Spinielli edited this page Jan 6, 2015 · 7 revisions
  • version control
  • use static generated site (do we rally need any web server?)
  • host on github
  • use jekyll but without generating on github (i.e. pregenerate and push on github.io repository)
  • use webhooks to publish.
  • references now in wiki pages but could be put in ref.bib (hence using BibTeX, yay!) (this is possible if we use pandoc to generate HTML for the site)

Rationale

  1. No need to go thru lengthy buying process
  2. No expenses
  3. Version control (yes!): we know what is out, who did push/change it (and why probably).
  4. github is reliable enough for our needs

Advantages

  • GitHub tools are easy to use

Drawbacks

  • Social: there is on-going effort to use a public sharepoint
  • Technical: will people be able to make the shift to version control?
