Ciano doesn't use the correct theme and it has an ugly black border around it

It specifically does use the correct theme right? The app is designed to work with the elementary theme and forces that. The ugly black border looks like a real issue though!

We will see if the issues are still reproducible once we migrate to the newest elementary BaseApp.
