Welcome to Kubernetes Austin, a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) supported community group dedicated to fostering learning, collaboration, and networking among Kubernetes enthusiasts in Austin, TX. This guide outlines how you can get involved as a volunteer, contribute to our mission, and help us grow this vibrant community.


Why Volunteer?

  • Community Impact: Help shape the Kubernetes Austin community by creating a welcoming and educational environment.

Ways to Get Involved

1. Event Organization

  • Assist in organizing monthly in-person meetings.
  • Help book venues, set up A/V equipment, and manage registration.

2. Content Creation

  • Develop slide decks, guides, or handouts for meetups.
  • Record and edit videos of meetup sessions.

3. Speaker Coordination

  • Identify and reach out to potential speakers from the cloud-native community.
  • Coordinate speaker schedules and help with presentation logistics.

4. Outreach and Promotion

  • Manage Kubernetes Austin’s social media channels.
  • Promote events through newsletters, blog posts, and community boards.

5. Sponsorship and Partnerships

  • Reach out to companies for event sponsorships.
  • Build partnerships with other tech groups and organizations.

6. Logistics and Support

  • Act as an on-site volunteer to welcome attendees and provide assistance during meetups.
  • Coordinate food, beverages, and swag for events.

How to Get Started

Step 1: Connect

  • Visit k8sAustin.com to explore upcoming events and learn about our group.
  • Join our Slack channel (link available on the website).

Step 2: Express Interest

  • Open an issue on our GitHub repository expressing your interest.
  • Alternatively, email us at [email protected] with a short introduction and the area you’d like to contribute to.

Step 3: Attend an Orientation

  • Attend our next meetup and participate in the volunteer orientation session. Dates and times are shared on our website and Slack.

Q: Do I need Kubernetes experience to volunteer?

No! While Kubernetes knowledge is helpful, we welcome volunteers with diverse skill sets such as event planning, social media management, and public speaking.

Q: How much time is required to volunteer?

Most roles require 2–5 hours a month. You can choose how much time you want to dedicate.

Q: Will I get to network with industry experts?
