The below is my opinion of how we could improve UX around User page and login

When you are not logged in:

  • Submit and Revise buttons should be hidden
  • User button should be replaced by a Log in button
  • Log in page (which needs general restyling with keycloak at some point - Keycloak style improvements #743 ) already provides the option to Register if you don't have an account.

When you are logged in:

  • Submit button visible (Revise feature should be linked from submit page)
  • My account button visible, providing Log out feature and group selection feature (Sequence overview is mostly moved under the Submit page as part of the wizard).

Great plan, fully agree. We might want to add "register" to the "log in" link text so it's obvious that the link serves both functions

I agree with most points. Regarding hiding the submit button when not logged in: Because submitting is such an essential feature and we would like everyone to be immediately aware that this is a platform where you can submit sequences (and not just view some (INSDC) sequences), I think that the submit button should always be visible.

That sounds fine for me. The UX issue there ATM is the redirect to the login page. We can instead display a "you need to log in or create an account" message (with links).

@bh-ethz, here are some suggestions regarding the UX.

This is almost entirely implemented.

The only thing missing here is to scrub Revise from top nav and place on the "submit" page

I implemented some of it in #1109

That's included in #1224
