Welcome to the Technology Stack Architecture (& Technology Stack Working Group) - terms wiki. The scope of this wiki are terms whose meaning is defined unambiguously and intended to be used consistently for the ToIP Stack Architecture, it's specification(s) and sub-documents (design, use cases/test cases, recommendations, guides, white papers).

The tag for this scope is: #tswg

The glossary produced by this wiki is here: https://trustoverip.github.io/tswg/glossary. NOTE: Hover any term in that glossary to copy its link.

Authors notes on how to add terms, concepts and definitions to the wiki are in a google doc, TSWG Wiki Author's Notes

This terms wiki should not include:

  • Any "bootstrap" terms about terminology itself that are defined in the General ToIP terms wiki (tag = #toip).
  • Terms that apply only in a narrower scope, such as (examples: TBD) in the context ToIP Stack Working sub-Groups, Task Forces, or deliverables. Those terms should be defined in a terms wiki specific to that scope. Examples are (TBD).

This terms wiki may include terms that are normatively defined elsewhere (such as in a specification from a standards body), but which are intrinsic to defining the ToIP stack architecture. In this case the term must reference the original definition and include any applicable licensing or attribution information.

Terms may migrate into or out-of of this wiki as a better "home" for them is found. Terms which are defined here and moved elsewhere should retain the term's entry in this wike, but now refer to the new location in the term, including a link. This applies to all ToIP terms and wikis.

A useful document for the ToIP Architecture is a discussion between Sam Smith, Wenjing Chu, Neil Thomson and Judith Fleenor, which defines an initial set of architecture terms and uses them in discussions about the architecture TATF May 19 2022 - Discussion on Tech Arch document sections 5.1, 5.3 & 5.6. This document may have a limited life span (obsoleted by more current thinking) and may be replaced, updated or published in another form.
