In this workshop we will be discussing and demonstrating the generation and bioinformatic analysis of microbial genome sequence data. Topics to be covered will include:
- Computer resources and software used in microbial genomic analysis
- Introduction to navigating the command line for bioinformatics
- Genome sequencing technology
- Whole-genome assembly from short- and long-read sequence data
- Microbial genome annotation
- Sequence alignments and variant calling from short- and long-read sequence data
- Phylogenetic analysis
- Visualization of sequencing and phylogenetic data
As we will be conducting example analyses during the workshop, participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to follow along and receive in-person assistance with the exercises if needed.
To prepare your personal computer for the exercises in the workshop, please follow the instructions on the pages below. There will not be time provided during the workshop sessions to conduct these set up steps and they can be time consuming, so please complete them prior to attending.
