Pages of xCCK can have a tree like structure. For example, you can post a topic as parent page and other users can reply to the post as child pages like bulletin board system.
Using this function, the fields of parent pages and child pages are the same ones.
If you want to change the field between the parent pages and child pages, you should the Subpage function.
Check the "Has hierarchical page structure ?" option in the admin preference page of xCCK.
In case checked, you can find the "add" link on the xCCK view page.
