Challenges

  • Inadequate storage space and occasional downtimes in the HPC facilities.
  • Selecting a particular tool or software from an array of options available.
  • Challenge in interpretation of the results from the Statistical Analysis.
  • Untimely responses on our collaboration channels: Slack and Github due to unstandardized time schedules from the members.
  • Room for misinterpretation and misunderstanding when working with a diverse group.
  • Working virtually for the first time was a steep learning curve.

Lessons

  • There is immense power in working as a team as everyone has something different to offer.
  • We understood each others’ strengths in working under pressure and as a team.
  • Proper planning goes a long way in achieving set targets.
  • Working in a team requires a variety of values and soft skills ranging from commitment, dedication, sacrifice, patience and being accommodative.
  • Understanding RNA-Sequencing and analysis, not just as a concept but the intricacies involved.

Experience

  • The group of eight was further divided into working groups of two to ensure inclusivity and participation.
  • Very hectic, yet pleasurable and gratifying.
  • Project Readiness: Gave us a rough idea of what it takes to work on a project and collaborate with a team.
  • Diversity in terms of skills, backgrounds and rationale from members.
