Tutorial: Map Editor
Map editing is simple, easy, and you can learn it in less than ten seconds! Well, maybe not that quick, but it's pretty quick!
When you first open up the map, you'll always be greeted at the very top left of the map. (Tenda Village) You can scroll around by using the sliders on the bottom and right side of the screen. I'm sure you've noticed by now; the whole mess of tiles bellow. It's kind of hard to look at, at first glance, but these tiles are what you use to edit EarthBound's map. Let's scroll over to Onett. In order to edit Onett, we need to right-click on an area we want to edit. When you right-click, a yellow box will appear. This yellow box highlights of what I like to call, an acre on the map. It basically highlights what can be evenly edited in the entire map. (The yellow highlight can also be used to copy and paste tiles.) For now, it's not that important for what we're going to do with Onett. You'll notice by now that the mess of tiles at the bottom has changed to Onett's tileset. Now we can edit Onett.
Now that we have the correct tileset for Onett, we will edit this part of Onett to have a pathway:
All we have to do is scroll through the tilesets and find the correct tile we need to use. Once we find it, you can click the tile and then click on the map of where to place the tile. Now we have a new pathway.
Now that we know how to edit the map, what will you make with it? Your neighborhood?
