You can visit the chatroom online.

Ellen König wrote this on the mailling list:

"For those that might not know IRC, IRC is a chat system useful for setting up group chats, with the benefit that the chat room is permanent and does not disappear when people are offline. So it is kind of like a virtual meeting room which we can use whenever we want to speed up decisions and conversations without the need to meet in person. .

Generally, IRC can be used like any other chat program, the key difference is how you join a chat room (called "channel").

First, you need to install some IRC chat program. Lucas was recommending XChat on Ubuntu, Limechat on Mac OS and mIRC on Windows.

Then, you need to point your chat program to the server irc.freenode.net and the channel rgsoc and select some user name. User names need to be unique, so some combination of firstname and lastname or a nickname would probably work best.

That's all. If you can see people in the channel and type hello, everything is working perfectly :)

Hope to see you around ;)"
