OI 6 - Network Configuration

Derived from Reference (e)

OI 6.1 - Connecting Directly to Spot

OI 6.1.1 - Direct WiFi - Access Point Mode

  1. Power on Spot per OP 2.
  2. Go to your computer’s WiFi settings, and select Spot’s WiFi access point from the list.
  3. Log in to the WiFi network using the following credentials:
    1. Username: TBD

OI 6.1.2 - Direct Ethernet

This mode is faster than WiFi, and should be used for transferring large files. An Ethernet cable is kept in LOCATION TBD.

  1. Power on Spot per OP 2.
  2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the robot’s rear Ethernet port, and the other end to your computer.
  3. Manually set the IPV4 network adapter setting to share the same subnet as Spot.
    1. Set the static IPv4 address to 10.0.0.X, where X can be any number between 1 and 254.
    2. Set the IPv4 subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
  4. Apply the settings.
    1. Ping the robot’s IP address (10.0.0.3)
    2. If the ping fails, double check the Ethernet address information by connecting with WiFi and examining the Ethernet tab in ADMIN CONSOLE > Network Setup
  5. Use a Chromium web browser to navigate to Spot’s IP: https://192.168.80.3/
  6. Select ‘Advanced’ then ‘Proceed’ on the Spot Admin Console page that appears.
  7. Log in with the admin credentials:

  6. Select APPLY and confirm. A green confirmation box at the top of the page will appear, indicating that settings have applied.

OI 6.2.2 - Connect Spot to a shared WiFi network (Client Mode)

Note: Spot has 4 internal IP networks. To avoid routing conflicts, the robot should not join an Ethernet or WiFi network in the following subnets:

  • 192.168.0.0/24
  • 192.168.50.0/24
  • 192.168.80.0/24
  • 192.168.1.0/24
  1. If using a computer:
    1. Access the Spot Admin Console through the Ethernet address per OI 6.1.2.
    2. Go to Network Setup > WiFi
    3. Change the WiFi Network Type from Access Point to Client Mode (Note: Spot's WiFi access point will no longer be available).
    4. Enter network name and password for the desired network.
    5. Toggle on ‘Enable DHCP’ or enter a static address.
    6. Ensure that a DHCP reservation using Spot’s MAC address has been set up with DoIT.
    7. Set the DNS Nameserver to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS)
    8. Enable ‘Is Current Default Route’.

    10. Refresh the browser page and scroll down. Note the IPv4 address, Route Prefix, and Gateway.
    11. The IP address can now be used to connect wirelessly over the shared network.
  2. If using a tablet:
    1. Select ADD NEW ROBOT.
    2. Select the same WiFi network as Spot.
    3. Select + ADD ROBOT to add a robot by IP address.
