Welcome to the Bending mod! This mod will add bending from the TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is currently being designed for MC 1.10. Sorry, but this will NOT be ported to an earlier version... so much things have changed between 1.7.10 and 1.10, that it would be a HUGE headache to manage!
Please note: The information is not final. Creating this mod is an iterative process, and many things are subject to change.
- Radial menu for each type of bending.
- Keys: Z for earthbending, X for firebending, C for waterbending, and F for airbending.
- The controls and radial menus are designed so that players can quickly activate abilities (instead of having to search on their keyboards for them).
- A bending ability is selected from the radial menu.
- Basic earthbending, fully animated blocks (similar to falling sand) that the player can control, throw, and place. Blocks can be picked up from the world. Also a ravine ability.
- Basic firebending, with a few abilities.
- Basic waterbending, similar to firebending.
- Basic admin commands for managing bending
- More abilities
- Better abilities
- 8 abilities for each type of bending
- Too many abilities would mean too many controls, which would make activating an ability a painstaking task.
- 8 abilities is enough. Some unique abilities shown in the TV show will have to be left out, but most commonly used abilities can fit in.
- Not sure how you will specify the power of a bending ability. For example, earthbend 1 block, or earthbend 8 blocks?
- Advanced bending techniques such as Metalbending or Bloodbending.
- Not sure whether to fit them into their own radial menu.
- They will not be super extensive, only adding a few abilities to the player.
- List of planned advanced techniques (I may have forgotten some): Limited floating (airbending), limited bloodbending or plantbending (waterbending), healing (waterbending), blue flames (firebending), lightning (firebending), metalbending (earthbending).
- Player identity: such as culture, etc. Players will choose their Nation. They have a chance of being a bender.
- Some players have a natural skill level which is higher than others. Thus, certain players may have more opportunities than others. If the player dies, the natural skill level will be set to a new number, to make it fair.
- Skill levels, can be used to unlock bending abilities. Each bending ability has a skill level, so a bender might be more proficient at one technique than another.
- Scrolls which give players bending XP that boosts their power.
- A limited amount of XP which players can spend on bending. They must choose to specialize in certain abilities.
- The avatar, players have a chance at becoming the avatar. Details are still not determined.
- Avatar state (obviously)
##Features that will NOT be implemented
- NPCs (inevitably get massacred by players, and complex AI is difficult to make)
- An actual avatar world (would be too hard to implement, just look at how long the Lord of the Rings mod is taking.)
- "Overpowered" players- you can never become as powerful as Yakone or Azula. That would ruin the fun on a server.
- Nuk-tuk, hero of the South!
##Design goals
- Simple, intuitive, and fast UI.
- Avoid items or blocks, instead favoring minimal controls to achieve bending.
- Right now, controls are used through the radial menus.
- Avoid key bindings for each ability.
- Realistic animation of bending skills.
- Varied, interesting, and steady progression.
- Targeted towards servers.
- Balanced bending abilities and interesting combat.
- The mod is designed to remove "spam-clicking" from PvP.
- Bending combat will involve player skills (like reaction time and aiming) but also the player's abilities.
- Performance should be optimal.
##When will this be ready for preview? Maybe another month, maybe two. It's hard to say.
Let me repeat- the first release will be a PREVIEW, which will allow the player to access a few interesting bending abilities, but gameplay will not be substantially changed. Later updates, which will include additions such as player skills, more abilities, and advanced techniques, are planned to impact Minecraft much more.
For now, check back once a week, and keep an eye on the milestones.
